Long live Beng Teik Football Club!

I was driving my silly bean and silly boy around Teluk Kumbar area when I saw a bunch of kids cycling along the narrow rural road in a single file manner. While cycling and scenic rural roads are a norm at this area, it actually triggered my thoughts on something that had happened a few days earlier. You see, those kids are all wearing the same football jersey with numberings and names on it. They're a football team, a band of boys with the same passion for football and are all willing to sacrifice for the team, that is what ol'Jon thinks anyway.

Well, ol'Jon had played football with lots of folks but the Beng Teik Football Club(unofficial..hehe) is the one I'm associated with the longest. I've played competitive football in College Competition, amateur club Ramblers SC, compete in Penang Chinese Cup, Bukit Mertajam Open and some other small time football competition during my younger days. However up till today, I'm still playing with them Beng Teik FC but maybe we've migrated to playing Futsal instead of Football due to Australia, Singapore and KL offering better perks/pays to our original Beng Teik FC guys. From 20 over players, we've now around 12 guys.

A few days back, BTFC had a futsal friendly with some guys from ex-Chung Ling High School. We lost the game 11-8 and was admit ably second best in the whole game. It doesn't help that ol'Jon is still nursing a problematic ankle injury and our lynch pin defender Peter Yeap is also suffering an ankle injury. Though this shouldn't be an excuse for the defeat, it really does hampers our chances.

Our captain Andy Ong had a good attacking game with lots of creativity, vision and short passes. He body checked well(usually he will not do it as he is more the flair player) and was a match for whatever physical challenge the ex-CLHS guys threw at him. Although his defending is a suspect a couple of times, ol'Jon has never seen Andy Ong so committed to the game. Thumbs up for him!

Andy Ong during his Mohawk days, the Creator!

Next in line, Peter Yeap who is not 100% fit and still put in a credible shift. He is one little tenacious player with incredible stamina. He could just run whole day long and though the swollen ankle affected his agility and overall play, you cannot fault his heart and desire. He could do better by distributing the ball faster and better or even shooting more frequently but we're happy with him, thank you very much, he is not for sale!

Peter trying to be cute and cudly, he is pure nasty and evil on the pitch...the Destroyer!

KY Lim, another of our super fit player hardly put in a wrong shift deserve a shout! He is tireless in a flanking position and never hesitated to shoot and torment the goalkeeper whenever there is opportunity. If not for the inform goalkeeper, he would've score a couple more. An asset in attacking and a terrier in defending, ol'Jon salute you!

Khai Yen, the Bombadier!

Next in line would be the much maligned KKH. He is tall and strong but he has no confidence in his ball control. Thus he always get the farking from fellow team members including ol'Jon. I will not sugar coat but he is really a good player but need to believe his feet and raise his head. Only then he can improve to be a good player. He has the skills but not the vision. Credit when due, he takes the criticism rather well and knuckle down to perform when needed. A Tabik to you Kah Hee!!!

The rampaging bull of Khoo Kongsi...the Masseur!

Lastly, I would like to mention about an enigmatic individual in my team. He is Alexander Teoh. He is hard to explain and hard to understand. How can you explain one moment of magic and the next thing you know he'll be quiet for the next 20 minutes? Inconsistency? That sprung to mind, but ol'Jon would like to think he is more like a Messi than a Xavi. His moment of brilliance can make grown men weep but his duffy performance will make men pull their hair out. Enigma seems to be right for him. However, ol'Jon would like to concede he is an asset to the team and the joker too. Good for team morale and good for team spirit!

Alexander showing his love bite....meSSi meSSi meSSi, the Magician!

Reason this post was written? For some moment of madness after the game, our team was tethering on the brink of collapses. ol'Jon know this might be a bit paranoid but deep inside all the players know this team might not be the same again. Cracks and misunderstanding might not be repairable and the very foundation of this team is shaken badly.
Beng Teik FC has been around for more than a decade, this 'club' comprise of boys(now men) who loves football and came from the famed school called SXI. It will be sad that this club will come to an end. Good things eventually end but ol'Jon is hopeful that BTFC could survive and be here for as long as our knees could support the weight, the legs could run, the body could turn, the feet could shoots and the friendship could be maintained!

Viva Beng Teik Football Club...I hope we can be like the Teluk Kumbar boys; just like last time when we use to cycle/take bus/ride motorcycle to meet up and play our favorite game and challenging other team......Would I rather play with a different team? Hell no!

ol'Jon
